Q What made you become a vegan and when?
Anita: I was a vegetarian for approximately 5 years and never thought I could become a vegan. I found it easy to give up meat as I always had an issue with animals being killed for human consumption. The more I learnt about the dairy industry and the more time I spent with other activists and vegans I realised that it was hypocritical to call yourself an animal lover and still eat dairy. So early this year I decided to become vegan and be true to my beliefs, it's almost a year now and it's a great way to live!
Q What's your favourite meal?
Anita: I love just a plain tomato and fresh basil pasta. I could eat it everyday!
Q What do you cook the best? Do you have a favourite recipe you'd like to share?
Anita: I tend to cook simple vegetable dishes, lots of stir fry's, risotto's, soups and pasta's.
Q Are many of your family and friends vegans?
Anita: Unfortunately only a handful are vegan at this stage, but I am always meeting new vegans
Q What makes you happy?
Anita: A victory for the animals makes me extremely happy!
Q What do you do to relax and unwind?
Anita: I rarely relax or unwind! I work on nervous energy! There is always something to do. I do like to take a good two week holiday to LA every year or so and relax there. I just returned from there recently and had a great time and met up with Chris DeRose, founder of Last Chance for Animals, it was a great experience.
Q How do you keep fit?
Anita: I don't unfortunately but a gym membership is definitely on the agenda.
Q Do you have a favourite book/movie/blog that inspired you that you'd like to share with readers?
Anita: I love to read about true crime. Also, Chris DeRose's autobiography 'In Your Face' has been a huge inspiration for me.
Q Do you have a favourite restaurant?
Anita: I prefer to go and eat at my vegan's friends places as they are great cooks!
Q What's been the best part of being a vegan?
Anita: Having a clear conscious.
Q Have you found any difficulties being vegan?
Anita: Stopping old eating habits and making sure I read food labels correctly. I have been caught out a few times. It's also difficult when eating on the go.
