ALV's Vegan BBQ a hit at Sustainable Living Festival!
Feb 19 - 21 2010
This year at the Sustainable Living Festival (SLF) ALV served up a delicious Vegan BBQ in addition to our regular animal rights information stall. With a festival that is all about promoting sustainability, we felt it was important to provide sustainable / cruelty-free food at the event. There was huge demand for our vegan schnitzel burgers, hotdogs and burgers from The Radical Grocery Store. Pies and sausage rolls from La Panella Bakery sold very quickly not to mention the delicious cupcakes, muffins and other baked goods from Nelly's Vegan Bakery. While some of our customers were already vegan, it was great to see many people discovering vegan food for the first time (and of course enjoying the experience!). Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out over thet weekend. Everyone did a fantastic job and really made our Vegan BBQ and information stall a great success!

Chrisi shaves her head and raises $800 to
help rescued animals!
Chrisi, a devoted vegan has taken it upon herself to raise funds for the animals at Animal Liberation Victoria's animal sanctuary. Her plan was to raise funds by shaving her head on her 21st Birthday - asking her family and friends to donate to ALV instead of giving her presents. In the weeks leading up to her 21st, Chrisi far surpassed her original goal of $500, instead raising $800 for go towards helping animals! Patty Mark, President of ALV interviewed Chrisi and her partner Adrian about her wonderful fund raising efforts and her thoughts on being vegan. To watch the video click here. Animal Liberation Victoria would like to thank Chrisi for all her hard work and initiative in raising funds to help animals.

It turned out to be a fun and busy day, with lots of food to feast on including hot dogs, schnitzel burgers, vegie burgers and tempeh/vegetable skewers. An array of cupcakes, brownies and cookies from Nelly's Vegan Bakery - served by Nelly herself - proved extremely popular, with the cupcakes selling out before half of us even managed to secure one! Thanks also goes to La Panella for the donations of delicious donuts, muffins and pastries. We all had sugar highs by the end of the day!
Thank you to everyone that came down and joined us, tried some of the food and helped out on the day.
